- 35 The Challenges Volume 1
-
Seven fantastic challenges that test the mettle of the Top Gear team. The Top Gear boys - Jezzer, Hamster and Captain Slow - can do brake-horsepowers, torques and 0-60s until the pumps run dry. But when they take on a challenge, the action gets competitive, hilarious, dangerous and, at times, downright humiliating. Robin Reliant Space Shuttle: Combining cutting edge amateur rocketry, British Grit, and truly intergalactic levels of messing about, Richard and James try to put a Reliant Robin into space. Building Amphibious Cars: Can the lads create a vehicle equally at home on land and water? Will they even make it across the reservoir without drowning or catching hypothermia? Building a Limo: The boys are up against it, making their own stretch limos from everyday cars. But the challenge has only just begun. There are some high-profile celebs who need a lift to the Brit Awards... Building a Convertible: Attempting to turn a Renault Espace into a fashionable 'drop top', the team prove that trying to make your own convertible is a bit like trying to cut your own hair... you can do it, but you probably shouldn't... Parkour vs Peugeot 207: They may wear silly trousers but these parkour (the barmy sport of leaping across rooftops across the city) lads are serious competition for Captain Slow's Peugeot 207 in a race through Liverpool. Veyron Race from Alba: It's Top Gear's most dramatic race yet. Jeremy's in the Bugatti Veyron - the fastest, most lavish supercar ever - while Richard and James are in a flying washing machine - with Captain Slow at the controls! Crap 70s Supercars: They were once state-of-the-art Italian supercars - the Maserati Merak, the Ferrari Dino 308GT4 and the Lamborghini Uracco. Now, all the lads need to do is try to drive them from Bristol to a "gentleman's" club in Slough.

- 39 Top Ground Gear Force
-
The Top Gear team of James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond swap the steering wheel for the shovel as they embark on a Ground Force style makeover challenge as part of Sport Relief. The Top Gear team of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond decide, for Sport Relief to resurrect the show Ground Force, and provide a garden makeover to the garden of one of Britain's 'sporting legends', namely Sir Stephen Redgrave. Helping them are a team of Poles. As the team's only 'country bumpkin' Hammond is the team leader. However, his garden plan fails to impress Clarkson and May, who want to include a water feature and a shed, respectively. They are sent to a Wyevale Garden Centre to pick up supplies, returning with their desired equipment. Hammond uses a small digger to dig a trench, to be used to create a 'river of gravel.' Clarkson earlier revealed his unique method for pulling up weeds and cutting branches off trees using a shotgun. Hammond's digger topples over in the trench, so he returns with a much larger digger to pull it out, resulting in leaving numerous Caterpillar tracks marks all over the garden. Meanwhile, James and the Poles have completed the shed. Hammond's tree seat is completed. He brings in a 14 tone crane to hook the seat so he could slip it over the tree. Despite the machine getting stuck, the crane is long enough to hook onto the seat. Because he had not got the hang of the crane, he accidentally swished it sideways, destroying both the shed and the seat. Clarkson decides to remove a rockery by using a homemade bomb. During the explosion one wall of the shed James built is smashed. After this happens May steps out of the shed with a plank of wood, and asks what time the programme will air. After being informed it was going to air after the watershed, he exclaims 'you're a fu-'. At this point, the episode cuts to the next scene. Jeremy orders some cement to pave over the garden, but he orders too little, and only a small portion of the garden is covered. Hammond gets stuck in the cement, and Jeremy lifts him out. James' shed is destroyed for the third time when Jeremy erects some rugby posts (despite the fact that none of Sir Stephen Redgrave's family plays rugby). However, he and the Poles accidentally drop the posts. This lead to James angrily telling Clarkson to apologize while pointing the plank of wood at Clarkson. Hammond reveals his barbecue system, which uses a jet engine to rotate the meat and cook it. However, the blades rotate too fast and the fire from the engine sets James' newly-rebuilt shed on fire. They would have been able to extinguish the fire if May and Clarkson hadn't fought over the fire extinguisher. The team then received word that Sir Steve Redgrave was coming up the drive to the house. Redgrave is upset at the destruction of his garden, so the Poles run away. Eventually he comes around thanks to Jeremy talking to him privately. Jeremy then shows off his turbo-charged water feature, which blows the top off itself due to the water pressure and crashes into the greenhouse built by the Poles, breaking all the glass. Until then, the greenhouse was the only structure still intact.

Races, chases and things on fire; treat yourself to a bucketload of Top Gear's attempts to get melted, hurt or drowned. To more cries of "How hard can it be?", "That’s not gone well" and "You insufferable Oaf!", Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May gallantly risk humiliation in another series of magnificent challenges, where petty rivalries are taken much too far… Features: Amphibious Cars: The Sequel The magnificent return of the homemade amphibious cars, as the lads drive their vehicles to Dover and across the Channel. Well, that was the plan… Bugatti Veyron vs Eurofighter Place your bets. A mile and back: vertically and horizontally; Hammond in one of the world’s fastest cars, the RAF in a fighter plane with a maximum speed of 900 mph. Race Across London James in a massive Mercedes, Hammond on a bicycle, the Stig on public transport (!) and Jeremy in a racing speedboat. Of course the car will make it across the capital first. Won’t it? Motorhome Racing The rules are ‘quite’ strict: it’s a no-contact race; drivers must sleep overnight in their camper vans before the race and be able to drive home afterwards. So, how come there’s a kitchen unit on the track? The Greatest Driving Road Scouring the Alps for the perfect road – beautiful scenery, pure pedal-to-the metal driving and a rush of adrenaline – in light-weight supercars – have the boys died and gone to heaven? Fiat 500 vs BMX The Fiat 500 has been reborn as a city runabout for fashionable and sexy young people. James May is none of these things, but surely he can beat a pair of scruffy herberts on titchy bikes around Budapest? The 24 Hour Race The Britcar 24-hour race at Silverstone is a gruelling test of driver stamina, skill and car reliability – so guess who’s entering a BMW 3-series powered by bio-diesel that they grew themselves?

Crashing, bashing and a bus that falls over! It's all Top Gear's very latest fast, fearless and rather daft challenges in one attractive plastic box. Jeremy, Richard and James embark on yet more ill-advised attempts to out-do each other in a stinky cloud of tyre smoke, rust and over-ambitious mucking about. CHEAP ALFAS The boys try to prove that old Alfa Romeos are proper petrolheads' cars by buying sub-£1,000 Italian rustbuckets and completing a series of challenges. Well, when we say ‘completing’… BRITISH LEYLAND Challenge General consensus is that British Leyland never made good cars. We disagree. So to prove that 40 years of BL is worth celebrating, the boys shell out for a BL classic and attempt the dreaded water test. RACE ACROSS JAPAN Jeremy and a Nissan take on James, Richard and the world’s greatest public transport in an epic race across Japan. Yes, it’s GT-R versus bullet train and it’s a close call. TOP GEAR VS THE GERMANS The boys take on the presenters of the German Top Gear telly, makes you think Fawlty Towers could have tried harder with the war jokes to be honest. THE LORRYING CHALLENGE Jeremy and the boys wonder how hard it is to be a truck driver – and ponder for long enough to buy three lorries and take on the mother of all lorry challenges. RICHARD’S F1 CHALLENGE It’s the Renault that Fernando Alonso won the world titlein, but Richard’s not quite on the pace. Put it this way: the tyres needed warming up again after he’d done his laps… FOX HUNTING The boys invent a new rural sport, pitting a pack of hunting dogs against a Daihatsu Terios. Jeremy gets stuck in a river and Richard proves surprisingly good on a horse. BUS RACING Boris Johnson wants to know which bus is the best for London. To find out, we get a bunch of touring car drivers to race them round a gravel circuit. Very scientific...

Will they survive the treacherous ooze of the salt flats? Will they be eaten by lions and hippos in the awesome Okavango Delta? Will the Stig’s African cousin think Jeremy’s Lancia is rubbish? Will James drive into Zimbabwe by mistake? Will Richard leave his wife for the car he loves?

- 67 Clarkson - Speed
-
The central premise of Speed is an intriguing one, that human beings are the only species capable of exceeding the speed limit that nature intended. Clarkson sets out to explore both what compels us to pursue these limits--often at considerable risk to our own safety--and what effect the quest has on us. The result was an immensely engaging series, a few highlights of which are collected on this video. The best moments are those that find Clarkson sticking to the brief: interviewing the aristo-twit tobbogganeers of the Cresta Run; trying to understand why he, an experienced driver, will never be as fast as Michael Schumacher or Colin McRae; a musing on the qualities needed to be a fighter pilot; an examination of the extraordinary sport of speed-skiing, in which cat-suited kamikazes hit speeds of up to 150 miles an hour. Unfortunately, the editors of this video have over-emphasised the occasional altogether pointless stunts that punctuated the original series: doubtless driving a car down a ski slope and participating in a mock dogfight over California were a tremendous wheeze for all involved, but they do nothing to illustrate this fascinating subject.

"2003 has been the best year for new cars ever. In this new DVD I put the best of the best to the test. But I’m not interested in reliability, fuel consumption or even cup holders. This is all about finding the car of the year that put the biggest smile on my face.....It’s all about excitement... So I put the Bentley Continental GT head to head against the Rolls Royce Phantom in a heavy metal drag race. I pitch the Mitsubishi Evo VIII against its old enemy the Subaru Imprezza Sti. I choose the best road car you can use on a track and the contenders are the Lotus Elise, the Vauxhall VX220 Turbo and the new TVR350C. There's a supercar showdown between the Pagani Zonda and the Koenigsegg. And I throw down the gauntlet to the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Aston Martin DB7 GT, the Porsche GT3 and many, many more. I also found time to put a new spin on the art of caravan towing - flipping one on to its roof and hooking it up to a super fast Overfinch Range Rover. In fact, I had so much fun...I’m still smiling now. I'm sure you will too. Enjoy."

Everywhere you look, we’re slowing down. With concorde in a museum, air travel is slower. And even the fighter jets of today would be smashed by the interceptors from the sixties. But what about cars? I decided to find out whether today’s cream can blast the monsters from the power crazed eighties. Are the new breed quicker in a straight line. Do they corner faster. Which are better looking and which can make the best noises. That means the 200 mile per hour Jaguar XJ220 taking on a Pagani Zonda. It means pitting a Mclaren Mercedes SLR against a Porsche Carrerra GT – the first time ever these cares have been brought together. And it means lining up the new Fort GT with the car that spawned it – the old GT40. It means epic head to head drag races. Naturally, the new Aston Martin DB9 is here too, taking on the old warhorses, the V8 Vantages. And the Evo 8? How much faster is it than the Evo 1. The answer might surprise you. Oh and of course, I just had to riddle a Nissan with machine gun fire as I take up the new and dangerous sport of "Clay Car shooting". Why? Why not!

And so, this is the big one. I trawl the whole of cardom to bring you seven great cars and truffle the undergrowth looking for seven automotive disasters. The good ones - the Ferraris, the Porches and the Aston Martins are driven to within an inch of their lives on the track. Some are even handed over to the Stig who makes a guest appearance. The bad ones are killed. Sawn in half. Hung, drawn and quartered. They're hammered and blown to pieces with dynamite and their skeletons left in the open to rot. I even find time for a game of car jousting. It's Heaven then, and Hell. Enjoy.

Aston Martin’s gentleman thug, the DBS, takes on its rivals from Italy. The lightweight Lamborghini Superleggera battles it out on the track with Ferrari’s 430 Scuderia and my test of the best takes me to the breathtaking roads of the Swiss Alps, the no limits German autobahn – and, er, Norfolk. I swap racing overalls for camouflage uniform to join the Marines at the controls of an all-terrain Viking before using its machine gun to shoot a Lexus…in the face. The 200 mph Porsche 911 turbo struts its stuff in its natural habitat – the autobahn. And I get a lungful of turbocharged fresh air from the 240 mph Pagani Zonda Roadster F. Then there’s the rocket science – Clarkson-style – as I fit a Porsche 944 with rocket launchers (they only look like drainpipes wrapped in silver foil). I also blast fireworks at a speed camera and have a bit of an accident with a double-decker bus. I drop a 7-tonne diesel engine on to a Highways Agency traffic-womble car – doing my bit to tidy the roads…while creating the world’s fastest diesel. Plus I’m joined by tame racing driver The Stig who gets a big surprise – as do you when you see what he likes to do with sheep. And everything else explodes.

What is best at drifting? - the Jaguar XKR, the Lotus Evora, Audi's R8 V10 or BMW's M3? To find out, I globe-trot from sun-drenched Spain to Silverstone via Oxfordshire and Swindon. There is serious science too. Can The Stig drift a car while wearing wellies? Can I corner in flippers? Can Formula One ace Anthony Davidson slide a car - in ice skates? Who is the best at off road driving? - Newswoman Kate Silverton, rugby's Matt Dawson, singer Ronan Keating - or me? Which is fastest - a car or a man? Find out as the Aston Martin v12 Vantage sprints against flying rugby winger Tom Varndell in a 100 metre drag race. And at last, The Stig goes head to helmet against The Tiff. The white-suited racing driver and I join forces against Vicki Butler-Henderson and Tiff Needell. There's carnage in an auto-test and I push the 190mph Aston Martin DBS Volante to the limit against Vicki in a £150,000 Ferrari California. I also pick a Ford Focus RS for a road race against his'Stigness in a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. Who will win? There's more. What will hit the ground first from 150 feet up a penny or a Ford Scorpio? Can the Stig ride a bicycle? And can a man with a rubbish car get it home using no fuel at all. just a catapult. - 82 Top Ground Gear Force - Sports Relief
-
The Top Gear team of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond decided, for Sport Relief to resurrect the show Ground Force, and provide a garden makeover to the garden of one of Britain's sporting legends, namely Sir Stephen Redgrave. Helping them was a team of Poles, and on hand to provide advice on Sir Steve's tastes was Ann Redgrave (who was erroneously addressed and referred to as "Lady Ann"). As the team's only 'country bumpkin', Hammond was the team leader. However, his garden plan failed to impress Clarkson and May, who wanted to include a water feature and a shed, respectively. They are sent to a Wyevale Garden Centre to pick up supplies, returning with their desired equipment. Hammond used a small digger to dig a trench, to be used to create a 'river of gravel.' Clarkson earlier revealed his unique method for pulling up weeds and cutting branches off trees using a shotgun. Hammond's digger toppled over in the trench, so he returned with a much larger digger to pull it out, resulting in leaving numerous caterpillar track marks all over the garden lawn. Meanwhile, James and the Poles completed the shed, but Clarkson accidentally shot a hole in it, breaking a window. Hammond's tree seat is completed, however it is completed outside the tree trunk. He brought in a 14 ton crane to hook the seat so he could slip it over the tree. The crane was too heavy and sunk into the lawn and left huge holes in it. However the crane was long enough to hook onto the seat. Because of Richard's inexperience with cranes, he accidentally swerved the seat sideways, destroying both the shed and the seat. Clarkson and May pretend to attack Hammond with shovels. Clarkson decided to remove a rockery by using a homemade bomb. During the explosion one wall of the shed James had rebuilt, after it was destroyed by Hammond, was smashed by the blast. After this happens May stepped out of the shed with a plank of wood, and asked what time the programme will air. After being informed it was going to air after the watershed, he exclaimed 'you're a fu-'. At this point, the episode cut to the next scene. Jeremy ordered some cement to pave over the garden, but he ordered too little, and only a small portion of the garden is covered. Hammond gets stuck in the cement, and Jeremy had to lift him out. James' shed was rebuilt for the third time while Jeremy erected some rugby posts (despite being told that none of Sir Stephen Redgrave's family plays rugby). However, he and the Poles accidentally dropped the posts on James' shed, squashing the roof and part of the walls. This led to James angrily telling Clarkson to apologise while pointing a two-by-four at him. Hammond revealed his barbecue system, which uses a jet engine to rotate the meat and cook it. However, the blades rotated too fast and flung the chicken off the rotisserie and the fire from the engine sets James' newly-rebuilt (for the fourth time) shed on fire. The team then received word that Sir Steve Redgrave was coming up the drive to the house. Redgrave was upset at the destruction of his garden, so the Poles ran away. Eventually, after Jeremy talking to him privately, his mood lightened. Jeremy then showed off his turbo-charged water feature, which blew the top off itself due to the water pressure and crashed into the greenhouse built by the Poles, breaking all the glass. Until then, the greenhouse was the only structure still intact (and the only item in the garden Steve Redgrave was pleased with).

Just what will motoring be like in a post apocalyptic world that’s been blown to bits by nuclear bombs or a massive comet? It’s a burning question that’s on literally nobody’s mind, and we give you all the answers in this brand new, incredibly cheerful Top Gear DVD. Embarking on a terrifying journey into the future, we show you how to drive to work in the perpetual darkness of a Nuclear Winter, how to make motorsport exciting when there’s only two racing drivers left alive, and, in a world where all cars are bristling with weapons, how to survive the savage, explosive fury of a Doomsday M.O.T test. And amongst all the nuclear carnage, we also tackle the ultimate petrolhead’s dilemma – what cars would you take for a final drive if there was only one barrel of petrol left on the planet? The explosions are huge, the cars are superb, so relax and enjoy. PS. This frightening vision of a post nuclear world is backed up by top scientists, in case you think it’s us just cocking about.

All this plus a vast fleet of sexy supercars and a man with a jet pack racing a Skoda. Top Gear At The Movies. It’s better than an actual movie. Probably.
