The two hour pilot episode sees Captain Ben Sisko takes command of the Bajoran space station Deep Space Nine, formerly Terok Nor, recently abandoned by the Cardassian Empire. The discovery of the first stable wormhole, controlled by time-independent aliens, worshipped by the Bajorans as gods (called Prophets), gives Sisko religious significance as the aliens Emissary.
