LXV Grand Prix de Monaco Location: Circuit de Monaco Date: May 27 2007 Course: Street circuit 3.34 km (2.08 mi) Distance: 78 laps, 260.52 km (162.24 mi) Pole position: Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:15.726 Fastest lap: Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:15.284 on lap 44 Background Testing started a week and a half before the race at Circuit Paul Ricard using the circuits 2D SC configuration to replicate the Circuit de Monaco. Lewis Hamilton went on to score the fastest times on the days of testing whilst the circuit was in the Monaco configuration. Hamilton, who had never lost a race on the Monte Carlo track (having won there in both GP2 and F3) played down his chances of winning the race, although he still remained "realistic" and optimistic, looking to fight for a win as is "the case with everything (he) competes in." Qualifying Qualifying was dominated throughout by the two McLarens of Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. Despite Hamilton setting fastest times for the first session, Alonso outpaced him in the final stages to take pole position, with Hamilton being held up slightly by Mark Webber. Felipe Massa of Ferrari qualified third fastest, posting a time after the clock stopped. Kimi Räikkönen made a mistake and hit the barriers coming out of the Swimming Pool Complex during the second qualifying stage, breaking his right steering arm. The damage inflicted could not be repaired and he qualified sixteenth. Despite provisionally making the top ten, David Coulthard was penalised for impeding Heikki Kovalainen and demoted to thirteenth. Coulthard's demotion allowed Jenson Button to participate in the final qualifying stage, but he failed to move up the field and finished the qualifying session in 10th place. Of those whose qualifying went well, former Monaco resident Giancarlo Fisichella fared best, putting his Renault on the second row in fourth place. Nico Rosberg's performance marked a return to form for his Williams team; his fifth place was the British constructor's best qualifying position since Mark Webber's second place at the same track one year before in 2006. Webber himself also fared well, filling the second slot on row three, alongside Rosberg, in sixth place. Race The race itself was quite uneventful. From the starting line everyone got away for the first laps, with Hamilton diving in behind Alonso to defend any of the Ferrari's advances. Hamilton started with five laps worth of fuel more than Alonso, but the team called him in two laps after Alonso pitted, changing his strategy from one to two stops, and letting Alonso get the win as Ron Dennis later admitted. After the race, FIA launched an investigation of the McLaren team for giving out team orders. Ecclestone said McLaren "could be excluded from the championship or they could have points deducted". McLaren were later cleared of any wrongdoing by the FIA. No other car in the field could keep up with the sheer pace of both of the Mclaren-Mercedes, with Massa, after a competitive first stint in third place, dropping to sixty seconds behind Hamilton. Notably, he was the only car the two McLaren drivers did not lap during the afternoon. Kimi Räikkönen came back up the field to eighth place to gain one championship point after his poor qualifying performance. Vitantonio Liuzzi crashed out of the race on the second lap, a fate that befell Spyker driver Adrian Sutil in the second half of the Grand Prix. The other Spyker car, driven by Christijan Albers failed to finish the race due to a mechanical problem. The only other retirement was Mark Webber, whose Red Bull's gearbox failed in the early stages of the race. Notes * David Coulthard was penalised for blocking Heikki Kovalainen and not allowed to take part in Q3, he was then given a two place grid penalty and started the race in 13th place. Jenson Button, who had qualified 11th in Q2, therefore inherited the final place in Q3.

Qualifying The first qualifying session was disrupted near the end by Anthony Davidson, who spun his Super Aguri while attempting to warm the tyres, bringing out the yellow flags. This also meant that he could not complete a good hot lap and left him near the back of the grid. This also forced Sato and Button to slow down on their hot laps, and the three drivers could not improve on their previous times in the closing stages of the session.[18] The six drivers eliminated in the first round were Albers, Sato, Sutil, Davidson, Button and Rosberg (for the first time this season, but due to an engine issue). The fastest time of the session was taking by Alonso. The second session was quite uneventful, with Alonso taking the fastest time again. Near the end of the session the six fastest drivers decided not to set any more times. This was a gamble for the two BMW drivers, as by the end of the session Heidfeld had been pushed down to tenth position. The six drivers who were eliminated from the final session were Liuzzi, Speed, Barrichello, Wurz, Coulthard and Webber. The two McLaren drivers were the first two drivers out on the track for the initial fuel burning phase, and initially, Alonso was the fastest on the track. After the first set of pit stops it looked like Alonso was going to take the pole. On the last set of laps, Alonso was on a faster time than he was before, but Räikkönen was on a faster. Both of them completed their laps and Räikkönen came out on top, despite an error coming out of the final corner.[18] Hamilton who had been sitting in fourth did not look like he was very competitive during qualifying. In the last few seconds of the session he set the fastest lap and put himself on pole position, and he was the only one to break into the 1 minute 19 second margin. Notes * Lap Leaders: Kimi Räikkönen 23 (16 – 17, 39 – 59), Fernando Alonso 21 (18 – 38), Lewis Hamilton 15 (1 – 15) * The start was aborted due to Felipe Massa stalling on the grid. The second formation lap went again without him. * Felipe Massa started the race from the pit lane. * Takuma Sato started the race from the pit garage. * This was the last race for Christijan Albers. Because of the sponsorship problem, he was replaced by Markus Winkelhock for the 2007 European Grand Prix.

III Petrol Ofisi Turkish Grand Prix Date: 26 August 2007 Location: Istanbul Racing Circuit, Istanbul, Turkey Course: Permanent racing facility 5.34 km (3.32 mi) Distance:58 laps, 309.72 km (192.56 mi) Race Felipe Massa's Ferrari led from pole from team-mate Kimi Räikkönen who had jumped McLaren's Lewis Hamilton off the grid to take second place. Reigning World Champion Fernando Alonso's start from fourth was even worse than team-mate Hamilton's as he fell behind both BMW Saubers of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld into sixth. However, BMW's early stopping strategy led to Alonso taking both places back after the first round of pit-stops. At the first round of stops it seemed that Räikkönen could pass Massa if he stopped later, as he did at the French Grand Prix. However, Massa stopped after Räikkönen to retain the lead. Hamilton stopped later than both Ferraris and caught several seconds up to them, but could not pass Räikkönen for second, as he gradually fell away. Meanwhile, Kubica's strategy had not only dropped him behind Heidfeld and Alonso, but Renault's Heikki Kovalainen too. Massa stopped later than Räikkönen again at the second pit stop, and therefore retained the lead as Ferrari called the race between team-mates off at this point. Hamilton may have emerged ahead of Räikkönen , but a puncture in his front tyre dropped him to fifth behind Heidfeld and Alonso. Damage to his front wing led to Kovalainen catching him, but the Finn was unable to pass Hamilton. Kubica lost a place to Nico Rosberg through strategy finishing eighth. Massa eventually won his second consecutive Turkish Grand Prix, and his fifth Grand Prix win overall, all of which came from pole position. He had secured his eighth pole in qualifying. Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing was the only retirement, with a hydraulic failure. Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Vitantonio Liuzzi ended a run of 9 consecutive retirements stretching back to the Bahrain Grand Prix in April. Notes * Fastest Lap: Kimi Räikkönen, 1:27.295 (Lap 57, 220.136 km/h) * Lap Leaders: Felipe Massa 55 (1-19, 22-42, 44-58), Lewis Hamilton 1 (20), Heikki Kovalainen 1 (21), Fernando Alonso 1 (43). * Although Adrian Sutil retired, he still completed enough laps to be a classified finisher. Therefore this race recorded the highest number of classified finishers-21-in a championship race, a record held since the 2005 Italian Grand Prix, where 20 cars finished.

Ferrari were expected to do well at home after a one-two finish in the Turkish GP and Michael Schumacher's victory at Monza the previous year. However, McLaren dominated the traditional test session prior to the Grand Prix, with Alonso topping the time sheets on two of the four days and Hamilton and Pedro de la Rosa fastest on the other days. XXXIII Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix Date: September 30 2007 Location: Fuji Speedway, Oyama, Sunto District, Shizuoka, Japan Course: Permanent racing facility 4.563 km (2.835 mi) Distance: 67 laps, 305.721 km (189.945 mi) Weather: Very heavy rain Pre-race Lewis Hamilton of McLaren led the Drivers' Championship by only 2 points from team-mate Fernando Alonso, who was a further 11 points ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen. After McLaren's exclusion from the Constructors' Championship, Ferrari had been confirmed as Constructors' Champions, following their Belgian Grand Prix one-two. They were 71 points ahead of BMW Sauber. Three Japanese constructors and two Japanese drivers competed in the race. Toyota were 6th in the Constructors' Championship, whilst Honda were 8th, behind their own "B-team" Super Aguri. Takuma Sato was 15th in the Drivers' Championship for Super Aguri, whilst compatriot Sakon Yamamoto had yet to score for Spyker F1, having debuted at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Notes * Lap leaders: Lewis Hamilton 55 (1–28 & 41–67), Sebastian Vettel 3 (29–31), Mark Webber 5 (32–36), Heikki Kovalainen 3 (37–39) and Giancarlo Fisichella 1 (40). * On Sunday, the safety car led the race for the first 19 laps (about 40 minutes) due to torrential rainfall on the racetrack. After the race, a lot of drivers criticized the decisions to continue this situation and start the race in bad conditions. * During the initial Safety Car period, the FIA instructed the lapped car of Vitantonio Liuzzi to pass the field and catch up to the back of the queue as quickly as he safely could, as a way of gauging whether the track was ready for the race to begin. * Mark Webber, who was still suffering from the after-effects of food poisoning, vomited in his helmet during the first safety car period. * David Coulthard changed his helmet design for this race, choosing to use the helmet design of the late Colin McRae as a tribute to his recently deceased friend. * This is the first time two Finnish drivers have been on the podium at the same time, Heikki Kovalainen finishing 2nd and Kimi Räikkönen finishing 3rd.[34] * The result was Adrian Sutil's first point, and Spyker F1's only point (as they were bought out by Force India after this season). * McLaren were not awarded constructors points or a trophy on the podium. * Heikki Kovalainen achieved his first podium at this race. This was also Renault's only podium of the season. * Sebastian Vettel became the youngest ever driver to lead a lap of a Formula One race. * This was the first retirement of the season for a McLaren.

IV Sinopec Chinese Grand Prix Date: October 7 2007 Location: Shanghai International Circuit Shanghai, People's Republic of China Course: Permanent Racing Facility 5.451 km (3.387 mi) Distance: 56 laps, 305.066 km (189.559 mi) Weather: Light Rain at the start before drying out. Light rain in the middle of the race before drying. Pole position:Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:35.908 Fastest lap: Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:37.454 on lap 56 Qualifying Sebastian Vettel was facing a drop of ten places on the grid for his collision against Mark Webber in the preceding race (the Japanese Grand Prix), but this punishment was reduced to a reprimand. However, he was then dropped five places on the grid for impeding Heikki Kovalainen during qualifying. Despite the fact that Kimi Räikkönen had been the fastest driver in all three previous practices and in the first two stages of the qualifying session, Lewis Hamilton managed to beat this time on the third qualifying stage and therefore earning the pole position. Race From the Sunday morning, conditions at Shanghai were wet, forcing all drivers to use "shallow wet" tyres. At the start Lewis Hamilton managed to keep his leading position. Vitantonio Liuzzi was the most successful starter, winning three positions at the first lap and overtaking Mark Webber and then Nick Heidfeld in the following three laps. Ralf Schumacher, after he has rolled into spin at the first corner, was dropped down to the last position. Toyota driver regained most of his lost positions, until lap 22 he overtook eight drivers. But the change of tyres to pseudo-slick cost the German the race: he twice spun off the course and retired at lap 26. As the track dried Hamilton began to suffer from tyre wear. With his pit stop imminent Mclaren elected to keep Lewis out until he had moved into the pit stop window. This was to work to his disadvantage though as he lost a significant amount of time on track because his tires had worn down to the cords. He then found himself without enough grip to negotiate the still-wet sharp left turn entering the pit lane. After running wide into a gravel trap he beached the car and was forced to retire. After Räikkönen's pit stop, Robert Kubica became temporary leader, but retired while leading because of gearbox hydraulics failure. In the struggle for 3rd position, which soon became 2nd, Alonso passed by Massa. The Spaniard initially left his opponent behind with a large gap, but on the last laps Massa managed to beat his partner's fastest lap and decreased his gap to Alonso to 3 sec. The race was won by Räikkönen, with Alonso as runner-up and Massa third. Sebastian Vettel, who had started 17th and chosen a one-stop tactic, finished fourth, the best result of his career at the time. Notes * Lap Leaders: Lewis Hamilton 24 (1–15 & 20–28), Kimi Räikkönen 31 (16–19,29–32 & 34–56) and Robert Kubica 1 (33). * Ferrari achieved its 200th Formula One win, and its 600th Formula One podium. * First points of the season for Toro Rosso. * Hamilton retired for the first time in his career. * This race was the final Grand Prix for Alexander Wurz, who announced his immediate retirement the day after the race.

XXXVI Grande Prêmio do Brasil Date: October 21 2007 Location" Autódromo José Carlos Pace, São Paulo, Brazil Course"Permanent racing facility 4.309 km (2.677 mi) Distance: 71 laps, 305.909 km (190.067 mi) Pole position" Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:11.931 Fastest lap: Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari 1:12.445 on lap 66 Practice In the Friday practice session, Ferrari duo topped the timesheet with Kimi Räikkönen leading the first practice in the wet session.[6] In the second practice session, Lewis Hamilton led McLaren to a 1–2 finish, with the track improving from time to time. Stewards fined McLaren, Honda and Super Aguri €15,000 each for tyre rule infringement. Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Takuma Sato used two sets of wet tyres, more than the one set permitted during the first practice. In addition, each driver has to surrender one set of wet tyres to avoid gaining any advantage. Race Only 21 cars were aligned on the grid, because of problems on the Spyker of Adrian Sutil, who started the race from the pit lane. At the start, the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen were faster, with the Finn passing Lewis Hamilton on the outside. At the third corner, Fernando Alonso passed Hamilton on the inside and the, on the Reta Oposta, defended himself from the attack of the Briton by taking the inside line. Hamilton was eager to repass his teammate and ended up locking up his brakes and going off the track. He rejoined the race in 8th place, just behind Jarno Trulli's Toyota. Also in the first lap, Liuzzi lost his front wing and was forced to enter the pits for repairs. In the first corner on the second lap, Fisichella went off the track, and was hit on the back from Sakon Yamamoto while re-entering on the track. Rubens Barrichello jumped the start and was given a drive-through penalty for this. Notes * Lap Leaders: Felipe Massa 46 (1–19 & 23–49), Kimi Räikkönen 24 (20–21 & 50–71) & Fernando Alonso 1 (22). * First Race: Kazuki Nakajima * Last Race: Ralf Schumacher, Spyker F1 * This was the last race where all cars were using traction control. It was banned starting 2008 season. * On lap 31 while making a pit stop Kazuki Nakajima hit two mechanics, neither were seriously injured. * After the race, the result had been thrown into doubt following an inquiry into the cars of BMW Sauber and Williams. Race stewards investigated alleged irregularities with the cars' fuel. The stewards decided not to penalize the teams based on a lack of conclusive evidence, but the McLaren team appealed against this ruling. The appeal was finally rejected by the FIA on November 16, 2007. If the appeal had been successful although it would be unprecedented, the title could have been handed to Lewis Hamilton. * This is Kimi Räikkönen's first victory at Interlagos. He had stood on the top step of the Interlagos podium in the 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix, but he was later deemed to have been runner-up to Giancarlo Fisichella. He was also runner-up in 2004 and 2005, both times to Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya It was later revealed by Ferrari that Massa was ordered to pit 3 laps early to give his team-mate victory for the championship. Massa was praised in Italy for giving up victory to his team-mate for the championship, despite being faster on the day. * This was the first three-way title fight in the final race of the F1 season since the 1986 Australian Grand Prix saw Alain Prost become champion, ahead of Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell. * The race gained an average of nine million viewers in the United Kingdom on ITV1, which is the highest for Formula One in seven years. Viewer numbers peaked at 10.4 million in the last 15 minutes.[13][14][15] * The weather was up to 37 degrees Celsius. * The track temperature was 63 degrees Celsius. * First and only retirement for Heikki Kovalainen this season, equalling Tiago Monteiro's record of "Most consecutive finishes from start of career" with 16 consecutive finishes. * This was the Renault team's first double retirement since the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix.
