Barnabas finds himself locked in his coffin. In 1897 gypsies (Sandor and Magda) live in the Old House. Quentin returns to Collinwood after some time away. Edith Collins, head of the family is expected to die soon, and is expected to tell the family secret to the next in line, Edward Collins. Magda sees the mausoleum in her crystal ball and sends Sandor to find jewels; however he finds and releases Barnabas.

Rachel is knocked unconscious by Jenny then locks her in the tower room. Dirk finds Nora outside Collinwood, who later claims she is waiting for her mother to return. Jenny starts wandering around the house. Dirk rescues Rachel from the tower room. Rachel tells Judith what has happened, denying that anyone was in the tower room. Judith finds Jenny who now has a sharp pair of scissors.

Magda is frightened and claims that Quentin has the mark of death and will die soon.

Quentin tries to kill Laura.

Quentin starts to feels burning pain through out his body (stopping him from strangling Laura). Laura recounts how Quentin betrayed her in Alexandria and was burned. Angelique agrees to save Quentin if Barnabas will resume their marriage. Barnabas introduces Angelique as his fiancé, which surprises and upsets Rachel. Angelique tells Quentin that a special urn holds the key to destroying Laura.

Laura catches Quentin searching her room, later he gets Magda to search for the urn. Minerva Trask shows up to take Rachel back to Worthington Hall; she accuses her of accessory to the murder of her brother. Minerva threatens to go to the police if Rachel does not go back with her. Rachel is further upset when she finds that Tim Shaw is planning to marry Charity Trask. Magda helps Rachel by hiding her in the Collins mausoleum.

Petofi holds Charity captive and sends Charles to tell Quentin that if he doesn't come to the cottage in half an hour, Charity will die. Charles goes to Collinwood and finds Barnabas instead. He tells Charles that Quentin has already left Collinsport. Reluctantly, Charles agrees to take Barnabas to Petofi instead. Barnabas arrives at Petofi's cottage. Petofi is angered at getting Barnabas instead, but soon realizes that he can take his body into the future instead of Quentin's. Especially since the Collins family of 1969 will greet him with open arms. Petofi causes Barnabas to lose consciousness and lays him on the couch. He then sits down and goes into a trance to take over Barnabas's body. But as he falls into his trance, Garth Blackwood, fully recovered from his wound, enters the cottage and chains Petofi's hands together so that he can't use his powers. Barnabas searches around the rubble of the burned down studio to look for clues of Petofi's death. He finds Petofi's golden pocket watch laying on the floor. Soon after, he finds Blackwood's black chain. Then after going outside, he finds Petofi's glases. Charles Tate comes in and is angered to see his studio burned down. He sees Barnabas and accuses him of destroying it. Barnabas tells him about the struggle between Petofi and Blackwood. He also tells him that the portrait of Quentin burned down as well. Charles admits to Barnabas that he stole the portrait because he believed it would help him against Quentin.
